WHAT TYPES OF HEALTH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept all forms of Health Insurance. However, there are differences in what some cover in certain hospitals.
DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?
Yes, a current referral is required to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon. The referral can be from either your General Practitioner, Specialist or the Hospital Doctor.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?
When you come for your appointment you will need to bring:

A current referral

Medicare Card
-
Health Care Card and/or Pension Card if you are eligible

Workcover / TAC details and claim number, if applicable

Private Health Insurance / DVA details, if applicable

Any relevant scans or x-rays
Gippsland Orthopaedics a private clinic. It is important to understand that you will be billed for consultation.
WHAT IS YOUR NEW PATIENT PROCEDURE?
New patients need a referral from their GP or specialist.
Please also ensure you have up to date
x-rays or other imaging (< 6 months old).
Also make sure you know where you had the imaging done so we can view the images.
DO YOU DO ALL TYPES OF ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERIES?
We do not see patients with neck or back problems. Some conditions such as musculoskeletal tumours are referred on.
WHAT WILL MY SURGERY COST?
Surgery at a public hospital is free. A disadvantage of this is that there is often a long waiting period.
Surgery at a private hospital is usually covered by private health insurance. Surgery can usually be scheduled quickly. Sometimes there may be additional costs.
